What gifts can I bare you my white tail deer friends

Here,they wait for me

again in mid-day sun. They are a little coy reluctant today as they peer from behind the branches.I imagine they sense I am hurried today, less present, have only enough time for a brief encounter.I wonder why this graceful herd congregates right here, right now.I see a well water pump,a man is pumping icey spring water with a cloud of steamy breath around his nostrils in the frigid air.I guess the grass ,the leaves gently peeping through the snow here is sweeter too.I reflect on the sweetness we all crave,be it in our hunger for sweet grass ,our thirst for sweet snow drops as they melt upon our tongue. We are intimatey interconnected ,interdependent, seeking out the fineness in life so we can live and survive in such sweet moments....

Kairos and Me

This is an introduction to my blog and me. I have chosen the word "kairos"-it is a word from the ancient Greeks from the time of Homeric epics. It connotes a moment in being, in experience, in presence and in time that possibilities, energies, muses, spirits, align in some inexplicable, unpredictable so what could not be or happen before suddenly is. These are the moments of rapture, love, compassion, revelry, those moments we want to take note of , appreciate ,indulge, luxuriate in and honor with gratitude. We do not know how or where or from whence these moments come to be,yet they are indelibly transfixed in our every breath. I dedicate this blog in loving memory and admiration to Jarl Dyrud, my mentor, guru and friend, for his wisdom, kindness, consideration, for the twinkle in his grey blue eyes, his lilting laugh, his radiant orchids and for all of the "dyrudisms" he shared with me on this journey to personhood. I welcome you, to celebrate the moments of our life. My pen name is "Rhiannon" , a gaelic goddess or queen. I love its lulling sound and it is close to my birth name.Welcome friends to KAIROS.....

The Birth of My Blog in a Snowy Forest on this New Year 2010

This is an example of "kairos" on the New year of 2010. I was driving on a snowy day past a forest preserve that I often pass on the long trip I have to work. Usually at dusk in spring and summer a herd of deer meander though these urban surrounded woodlands. I was musing, remembering an early warm autumnal twilight as I gazed upon these lovely creatures. I was wistfully longing to see their grace, their gentle beauty. It was quiet on the roads of this frosty January morning, the morning after a rare" blue-moon" the night before. And here, standing in the clearing, my simple lovely wish was granted, seemlessly, with ease, as perfect as can be,justso...

The Place I Want To Get Back To

is where
in the pinewoods
in the moments between
the darkness

and first light
two deer
came walking down the hill
and when they saw me

they said to each other, okay,
this one is okay,
let's see who she is
and why she is sitting

on the ground like that,
so quiet, as if
asleep, or in a dream,
but, anyway, harmless;

and so they came
on their slender legs
and gazed upon me
not unlike the way

I go out to the dunes and look
and look and look
into the faces of the flowers;
and then one of them leaned forward

and nuzzled my hand, and what can my life
bring to me that could exceed
that brief moment?
For twenty years

I have gone every day to the same woods,
not waiting, exactly, just lingering.
Such gifts, bestowed,
can't be repeated.

If you want to talk about this
come to visit. I live in the house
near the corner, which I have named
Gratitude.
